WITH APPROXIMATELY 1,000 FUNDS UNDER MANAGEMENT, FUNDHOLDERS ARE PROVIDED WITH EXPERT GUIDANCE AND CONCIERGE SERVICE - ALL FROM THE FOUNDATION'S PHYSICAL HOME, THE CENTER FOR PHILANTHROPY, IN THE HEART OF DOWNTOWN NEW ORLEANS. NONPROFIT EFFECTIVENESS: TRAINING NONPROFIT LEADERS TO BE EFFECTIVE, SAVVY, AND RESPONSIBLE STEWARDS OF THEIR ORGANIZATIONS, THE FOUNDATION ANNUALLY SERVES IN EXCESS OF 1,100 INDIVIDUALS. WHETHER A NONPROFIT LEADER NEEDS ENTRY-LEVEL TRAINING IN ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP, FUNDRAISING, OR FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT; OR IN-DEPTH, TARGETED TRAINING OR COACHING, THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES EXTENSIVE TRAINING AND COACHING SERVICES. THIS INITIATIVE ENGAGES EVERY MAJOR HEALTHCARE EMPLOYER IN THE NEW ORLEANS REGION AS WELL AS EDUCATION PARTNER, DELGADO COMMUNITY COLLEGE, IN IMPLEMENTING AN INDUSTRY-APPROVED TRAINING CURRICULUM AND A SHARED STRATEGY DESIGNED TO HELP DISCONNECTED WORKERS SECURE JOBS THAT PAY LIVING WAGES AND HAVE CAREER PATHS. THE FOUNDATION IS PRESENTLY REPLICATING THIS MODEL FOR GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE TRAINING FOR JOBS IN THE REGION'S WATER ECONOMY. BUILDING THE MOVEMENT TO LIVE BETTER WITH WATER - THE FOUNDATION'S "LIVING WITH WATER" CIVIC LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE IS DESIGNED TO HELP THE GREATER NEW ORLEANS REGION IMPROVE OUR MANAGEMENT OF STORM WATER AND REDUCE FLOODING AND SUBSIDENCE. OUR GRANTS TO GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATIONS AND OUR URBAN WATER SERIES OF EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS HAS HELPED CITY AND REGIONAL OFFICIALS, NATIONAL EXPERTS, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, AND CITIZENS TO COME TOGETHER TO LEARN HOW TO RESPONSIBLY MANAGE STORM WATER IN THE NATION'S THIRD RAINIEST CITY. BECAUSE OF THESE EFFORTS, THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS ADOPTED ARTICLE 23 TO ITS COMPREHENSIVE ZONING ORDINANCE. ARTICLE 23 ENSURES THAT NEW CONSTRUCTION MUST INCORPORATE PROGRESSIVE WATER MANAGEMENT AND GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE. ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM - THE FOUNDATION'S ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM MAKES GRANTS TO SUPPORT COASTAL COMMUNITIES. FROM COLLABORATING WITH THE UNITED HOUMA NATION TO HELPING OTHER NATIVE COMMUNITIES GAIN CLEAR TITLES TO THEIR LAND IN ADVANCE OF CLIMATE MIGRATION TO WORKING WITH THE ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE FUND TO HELP RE-DESIGN THE LOWER END OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER, GNOF'S ENVIRONMENTAL FUND HAS BEEN A CATALYST FOR THE PROTECTION AND RESTORATION OF COASTAL COMMUNITIES. OUR SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA "SELA VOICE" INITIATIVE HAS PULLED TOGETHER NUMEROUS GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATIONS WHO TOGETHER EDUCATE THEMSELVES AND THEIR COMMUNITIES AND THEN PROVIDE VITAL WRITTEN PUBLIC COMMENT PROJECTS BEING PROPOSED BY THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS AND STATE COASTAL PROTECTION AND RESTORATION AUTHORITY. LGBTQ FUND - THE FOUNDATION CREATED LOUISIANA'S FIRST DEDICATED SOURCE OF FOUNDATION FUNDING FOR LGBTQ-LED AND SERVING ORGANIZATIONS TO SUPPORT EQUALITY, FAIRNESS, ACCEPTANCE, AND MUTUAL RESPECT FOR ALL. SINCE ITS FIRST ROUND OF GRANTMAKING IN 2016, THE LGBTQ FUND HAS GRANTED $459,000 TO NEW ORLEANS AREA ORGANIZATIONS WORKING TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND ADVOCATE ON BEHALF OF LGBTQ PEOPLE IN OUR REGION. GREATER TOGETHER FUND FOR RACIAL EQUITY - THE FOUNDATION CREATED THE GREATER TOGETHER FUND FOR RACIAL EQUITY IN SEPTEMBER OF 2020 AS A NEW CIVIC LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE DESIGNED TO ADDRESS UNFAIR AND INEQUITABLE SYSTEMS AND TO BUILD WEALTH FOR BLACK FAMILIES IN OUR REGION. BECAUSE OF CENTURIES OF EXPLOITATION, DISCRIMINATION, AND UNJUST ECONOMIC AND GOVERNMANTAL SYSTEMS, AFRICAN AMERICAN FAMILIES, ON AVERAGE, FACE RACE-BASED DISPARITIES IN SUCH AREAS AS BASIC HEALTHCARE, EMPLOYMENT AND EARNINGS, WRONGFUL CONVICTIONS, HOME OWNERSHIP, QUALITY ACADEMIC AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, ACCESS TO BASIC TECHNOLOGY, AND SMALL BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES. THE FOUNDATION USES THE GREATER TOGETHER FUND TO MAKE GRANTS TO BLACK-LED ORGANIZATIONS WORKING TO INCREASE THE WELL-BEING, SAFETY, AND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS IN OUR REGION. THE FUND ALSO AIMS TO BOLSTER THE WORK OF BLACK-LED NONPROFITS LEADING ON RACIAL EQUITY, MAKE IMPACTFUL INVESTMENTS THAT LEAD TO THE ELIMINATION OF INEQUITABLE SYSTEMS, CLOSE THE RACIAL WEALTH GAP BY SUPPORTING STRATEGIES THAT SUPPORT MINORITY BUSINESSES, AND SUPPORT EFFORTS THAT PROMOTE GENERATIONAL WEALTH TRANSFER WHILE SHRINKING THE BLACK-WHITE WEALTH GAP. IN 2020-21 THE RACIAL EQUITY FUND AWARDED $1.45 MILLION TO 31 BLACK-LED ORGANIZATIONS WORKING TO ELIMINATE RACIALLY INEQUITABLE SYSTEMS WITH THE GOAL OF CREATING A MORE JUST REGION FOR ALL. COVID-19 RESPONSE FUND - THE FOUNDATION HAS A HISTORY OF CIVIC LEADERSHIP IN RESPONDING TO DISASTERS FROM HURRICANE KATRINA TO THE BP OIL SPILL. AT THE ONSET OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE FOUNDATION LAUNCHED THE COVID-19 RESPONSE FUND AND SECURED OVER $6 MILLION IN RESOURCES FROM GENEROUS INDIVIDUALS, FUNDHOLDERS, CORPORATIONS, AND LOCAL AND NATIONAL FOUNDATIONS. THE FOUNDATION MADE OVER 110 GRANTS TO ORGANIZATIONS WORKING ON THE FRONT LINES TO ADDRESS HEALTH CARE AND HEALTH ACCESS, TESTING, AND VACCINATIONS; TO ADDRESS FOOD AND HOUSING INSECURITY; AND TO SUPPORT ORGANIZATIONS WORKING TO ASSIST CHILDREN, LAID-OFF WORKERS, AND ENTREPRENEURS AND SMALL BUSINESSES STRUGGLING TO SURVIVE DURING THE PANDEMIC. THE FOUNDATION HELPED THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS DESIGN A PROGRAM THAT RECEIVED $30 MILLION IN FUNDING FROM FEMA TO ENGAGE LOCAL RESTAURANTS IN PRODUCING MEALS FOR HOME DELIVERY TO VULNERABLE POPULATIONS. WITH THE SUPPORT OF GENEROUS PARTNERS, THE FOUNDATION ALSO CREATED THE LOUISIANA SERVICE AND HOSPITALITY FAMILY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM WHICH AWARDED $1,000 GRANTS TO NEARLY 1,800 LOW-INCOME INVIDUALS WHO WERE ADVERSELY AFFECTED BY THE PANDEMIC AND STRUGGLING TO SUPPORT CHILDREN AND ELDERLY PARENTS. THE FOUNDATION ALSO PARTNERED WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND RIDE SHARING ORGANIZATIONS TO SECURE FREE RIDES FOR INDIVIDUALS TO RECEIVE THEIR COVID-19 VACCINE SHOTS. WITH A MINIMUM DONATION LEVEL OF $10, GIVENOLA DAY DEMONSTRATES THE FOUNDATION'S BELIEF THAT EVERYONE CAN BE A PHILANTHROPIST. THE FOUNDATION RECEIVES NO FEES FROM EITHER DONORS OR PARTICIPATING NONPROFITS AS A RESULT OF GIVENOLA DAY. NOT INCLUDING GNOF STAFF TIME, THE DIRECT COSTS TO PRODUCE, PROMOTE, AND PROVIDE PRIZES AND AWARDS TO NONPROFITS PARTICIPATING IN GIVENOLA DAY ACTIVITIES EXCEEDED $300,000 IN 2020. THESE COSTS WERE COMPLETELY UNDERWRITTEN BY GENEROUS SPONSOR CONTRIBUTIONS AND INDIVIDUAL DONOR DIRECTED GIFTS. 1923 LEGACY SOCIETY - THE 1923 LEGACY SOCIETY CELEBRATES THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE REMEMBERED THE GREATER NEW ORLEANS FOUNDATION WITH A PLANNED GIFT. THE FOUNDATION'S TEAM OF EXPERTS IN GIFT PLANNING WORK CLOSELY WITH PROFESSIONAL ADVISORS TO INCLUDE CPAS, INVESTMENT ADVISORS, AND ESTATE ATTORNEYS TO BUILD TAX-SAVVY GIFT PLANS THAT ARE UNIQUE TO THE DONOR, SERVE THEIR HIGHEST PHILANTHROPIC GOALS, AND ENABLE INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES TO SECURE THEIR DREAMS OF ESTABLISHING A PHILANTRHOPIC LEGACY THAT WILL BENEFIT THE GREATER NEW ORLEANS REGION FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.
